LEADERS and stakeholders of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP in Enugu North Local Government Area, Enugu State, have said it would be ungodly, irrational an reckless invitation to crisis to ask Enugu East Senatorial District to allow Enugu West present Senator Ike Ekweremmadu for governorship come 2023.
The Chairman of the group which called itself the Enugu East 2023 (EE-23), Chief Innocent Udeani stated this while speaking on behalf of the leaders and stakeholders of EE-23 in a brief consultation with some of the stakeholders of PDP in Enugu state.
The Chairman of Enugu East 2023, EE-23, also explained that EE-23 is a lobby group made up of card-carrying members of the PDP in Enugu North Local Government with the aim to lobby for the governorship seat to rotate to the Enugu East Senatorial zone in 2023.
The group tasked former Governors Chimaroke Nnamani, Sullivan Chime, and Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi to call for a stakeholders’ meeting that would midwife a written and signed agreement for zoning of the State Governorship on a senatorial districts basis which has always been implemented in the state.
The group, however, said the people of Enugu North Local Government area would only accept, support, and work for any governorship aspirant of Enugu East extraction.
Chief Udeani said: “We want a properly documented agreement by a majority of the people so that the issue of gentleman agreement will be put to rest. Whether it was by coincidence, Enugu East has waited for 16 years, it will be ungodly and callous to tell them to wait for North or West to go for Governor in 2023. But they must discipline their own to accept zoning.
“When the time comes, anybody Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi presents from Enugu East Senatorial district, we will follow. Gburugburu will speak for us because on gburugburu we stand. We want to establish a sustainable system where when it gets to the turn of your senatorial district, no one from other senatorial districts will contest against the benefitting district. So the argument that Senator Ike Ekweremmadu or any other person from Enugu West senatorial districts to contest in the pools come 2023 should be canceled and stopped”.
They appealed to the political leaders of Enugu North Local Government Area to support the EE-23 to push for zoning arrangements on senatorial districts line to enable the PDP to continue to rule beyond 2023.
