It is just days away from the prestigious All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) and eyebrows are raised. Well, the widely desired spot of ‘Song of The Year’ is up again for a much-heated jostle. This year, the royal rumble is as intense as it could ever get, with nominations from some of the biggest jams of 2020.
‘Song of The Year’ is one of the most keenly contested categories of AFRIMA, featuring the most popular songs in the continent. In 2014 when AFRIMA began, Nigeria’s Brymo won in the category with his song, ‘Down’, Diamond Platnumz (Tanzania) won in 2015 with ‘Nasema Nawe’ and in 2016 with ‘Utanipenda’. Wizkid (Nigeria) with his song, ‘Come Closer’ was the category’s winner in 2017 while GuiltyBeatz, Mr. Eazi, Patapaa & Paapy Kojo (Ghana-Nigeria) won in 2018 with ‘Akwaaba’, and in 2019, ‘Fever’ by Wizkid (Nigeria) clinched the award.
