Seasoned journalist and lead anchor of popular TV programme ‘Journalist Hangout’, Babajide Otitoju has revealed that in the course of his career he’s gotten several death threats in the line of duty so much that Lagos State governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had to send six trucks of RRS men to surround his house.
Babajide Otitoju made this revelation in a recent interview with ace broadcaster and media personality, Kikelomo Atanda-Owo on the ‘Interviewing The Interviewer’ series on her TV show where he said, ‘i get death threats all the time, there was even a time when the governor of Lagos State had to send six trucks of RRS men to surround my house for my safety. The governor got to know I had received a threat and they were coming to kill me at home’.
These things happen constantly in the line of duty but there’s a quote that constantly comes to my mind, and it’s a quote I read when I was 20-years old, the quote says, ‘great journalists, like great soldiers don’t always die in their beds’ he said.
So when i’m going out for a difficult story, i always know there’s the possibility i don’t return alive, with this mindset, i already conquered fear a long time ago. I remember my experience when I visited Sambisa unaccompanied, I was almost arrested by the soldiers back then for my own safety’.
