The Labour Party in Ogun State has slammed the Independent National Electoral Commission – INEC describing the February 25th electioneering activities of the presidential, Senatorial and House of Representatives elections a joke and a charade.
The Ogun State chairman of Labour Party, Micheal Ashade amongst several other accusations made it known that the evidences of massive rigging, disenfranchisement, Voter suppression, oppression and incessant vote buying rendered the process in the state invalid and called for the cancellation of the elections.
We wish to also state categorically that the electoral act 2022 as amended says that declared results at the polling unit must be sent real time by the BVAS machine and same transmitted to the IREV portal where the election results can be monitored real time.
It was rather shocking that the same BVAS machine that worked perfectly throughout the accreditation and voting period couldn’t now transmit results real time across the nation with INEC offering no explanation as to why this was so.
To the amazement and disbelief of many – INEC then began collation of results manually which led to massive rigging of the results in the state. The figures submitted by the polling agent and Party agents witnessed serious discrepancies with bogus figures being declared after the original results were changed.
This is a rape on democracy, it is unacceptable. INEC rather went ahead to support this nonsense with confidence thereby making the electoral law a joke. Despite appeals by to the returning officer of the state to cancel the results and declare fresh election.
To this end, the Labour Party and her members hereby uses this opportunity to appeal to all stakeholders, foreign observers, lovers of democracy, and the international community to quickly wade in to restore the mandate of the people while we remain calm and allow the law to take it course. We shall prevail and our labour will never be in vain.
