The Lead Generation Initiative (LGI), a non-governmental, non-partisan, and non-profit organization, has announced its resolve to take part in the upcoming national protest set to kick off on Thursday, August 1, 2024.
This decision comes following an emergency stakeholders meeting convened to evaluate the state of the nation and address pressing issues affecting the well-being and future of Nigeria.
According to the statement released by the LGI’s media manager, Kola Popoola, the primary objective of the protest is to draw the government’s attention to critical issues that are vital to the nation’s development and progress. The statement noted that by participating in this demonstration, LGI aims to advocate for positive change and contribute to building a better future for Nigeria.
In addition, the NGO’s media handler explained that protest serves as a fundamental tool for citizens to assert their demands and drive transformative change.
“As an integral component of the Get Involved Leadership Training (GiLT) programme of LGI, members are well-equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to engage in peaceful protests effectively,” the statement reads in part.
In the same vein, LGI added that all its members participating in the protest are committed to demonstrating peacefully and within the confines of the law. It is emphasized that no protester should possess any form of weapon during the demonstration.
Additionally, thorough documentation of all intending participants will be conducted, and the protest must conclude by 4:00 pm each day.
The protest will commence daily at 9:00 am from a designated starting point, proceeding from Point A to a specified destination, denoted as Point B.
LGI has communicated extensively with security agencies regarding the protest initiative. The association assured the public of its full cooperation with security forces to ensure a peaceful and orderly demonstration.
The protest led by LGI will emphasize the following demands:
1. The Need to include People in every Discussion of National Interest
2. Support the Naira and Stop its free fall
3. Open the Boarders and allow importation of food without any levy
4. Decentralize Distribution of food items and include other organizations( stop using State Governors alone).
5. Amend the constitution to prevent anyone above 70 from contesting for any political position, except for legislative offices that require institutional memory to advance national development.
6. Also, the government is urged to prioritize local food production by empowering small-scale farmers, enhancing the agricultural value chain, and strengthening storage systems.
In view of the above, LGI extends an invitation to all patriotic Nigerians to join the peaceful protest and collectively advocate for a brighter future for the nation.
