This past week 19th-24th April 2022, witnessed the maiden edition of Oduduwa Football tournament in Ijebu Ode.
The week long tournament organised by the Oduduwa Football Association played host to over 1,000 youths representimg six states (Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Ekiti, Osun and Ondo) in Yorubaland . The matches which featured male and female categories that saw team Lagos defeat team Osun in the male football finals while team Ogun defeated team Lagos in the female finals.
Speaking to the organisers of Oduduwa football club tournament on the reason for the Football tournament, the organisers said, ‘as we all know, the Yorubaland has a very high percentage of youthful population that could be nurtured and supported for a brighter future. Our football clubs in the zonehave over time proven that there’s a lot of talent in soccer if properly harnessed and nurtured. So for us, it was an opportunity to give the young ones who aren’t necessarily on that level the chance and opportunity to grow and as we all know, sport is also a unifying factor in our country today’.
The event enjoyed mazing support from illiustrious sons and daut\ghters of the zone inclduing; the patron Olayemi Ajose, the coordinator; Mr Kola Oripinye, while Mrs Titilayo Omotosho served as the project manager. The media direector for the event was Titilola Aboyade-Cole while Lameed Akanbi and Yeye Sinmisade Kuku-Onayemi
served as technical director and welfare coordinator respectively.
