Attempting to determine who Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu is could prove herculean especially when considering his monumental achievements as the Lagos State Governor without noise making.
When rumours had it that the man would be named the APC gubernatorial candidate in the 2019 general elections, little did Lagosians believe in his candidacy, especially when the performance of his would-be predecessor was in focus.
Fast forward, the man, Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu (BOS) won the election. Became the Lagos State Governor on 29th May 2019. Since then, it’s been a rollercoaster of successes upon successes in office. Irrespective of the damaging effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on humanity across the globe, Lagos State inclusive, the people’s governor has been impressive in his discharge of responsibility to the people of the State under his supervisory watch. As if the economic recession inflicted on the human race wasn’t enough to grapple with, the END SARS protest sprung up with the nasty image denting effects. However, as a manager of men, materials and resources, Governor Sanwoolu bluntly refused to fit with the dirty pigs of the protesters. He stood firmly like the Rick of Gibraltar behind the people of his State. With him, democracy simply won. Only a few administrators could perform such feats.
Be that as it may, attempting to enumerate all his achievements in these little past two and half years would certainly take the whole of our time. However, we must mention that his THEMES Agenda has been adequately met and even surpassed in many fronts, and hence being used by others as reference points. Where do we begin from?
Are we to highlight the over 3000 teachers employed for both primary and secondary schools or are we to weigh in on the proposed 8272 units of hostel accommodation for LASU students with MOU already signed with about six private investors for the realization of the project. To assert his unflinching supports for the education sector, our Governor has completed various projects in 970 schools across the state. These projects had exceeded 1100 by the last count. As a strong believer in education, we can not but mention the five billion naira (N5billion) EduFund recently instituted in partnership with First Bank PlC. All these monumental achievements in the education sector is being described as a tip of the iceberg.
On the interconnectivity road system of the State, the 3000km metro fibre connection across the state.
In his plans to enhance the ease of business in the state, as well efforts to couching the devastating effects of the global scourge as created by COVID-19, Governor Sanwoolu raised a one billion naira fund meant for businesses in the arts and culture, hospitality, tourism and entertainment sectors. The availability and disbursement of the fund to required organizations are as easy as a hot knife cutting through butter.
We are to continue with these highlights at our next episode. However, it is important to call our attention to the peaceful nature of our Governor. Taking a cursory look at his involvement with the resolution of impasse created within the Magodo Resident Association. Without going into legal jargons associated with the issue, Lagosians were highly pleased with his leadership role leading to the resolution of the logjam. Imagine his encounter with the illegal police occupation of the Estate. If we had had a power hungry governor, the likeliness of the peace being experienced in the Estate and by extension the State could have been elusive.
